Annual House and Garden Tours

Tour Dates Are March 19-20, 2027

As our country celebrates the 250th anniversary of its founding, please join us in Charleston this spring where you can see history everywhere!  The Garden Club of Charleston, Inc. was founded in 1922 and is one of the oldest garden clubs in America.  The club has a rich tradition of historic garden preservation and community-based service.  As you stroll through beautiful, historic Charleston, South Carolina, you will see the evidence of over 100 years of garden club members' work throughout the city.

Our tours take place in two different historic districts over the course of two days: South of Broad & Ansonborough.  Peek behind the walls of some of the most beautiful gardens in Charleston, and step inside homes to see stunning architectural details, lovely furnishings, and interesting art & antiques.  Tours are self-guided with club-member docents sharing knowledge and history at each location.

Find gardens filled with music performed by members of the Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestra.  Watch as plein air artists tell their own stories about the gardens with their paintbrushes.  Delight in the beauty of floral displays created by our talented garden club members.  And do not miss out on Southern hospitality at its finest with garden club members welcoming you to our hospitality venues with local baked goods and our very own punch recipe.

We look forward to meeting you in the garden for our 90th Springtime in Charleston tours!

Frequently Asked Questions About this Year's House & Garden Tour

Can I buy tickets on the day of the tour?

Our tours sell out every year, so be advised that tickets should be purchased in advance.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes!  No high-heeled or kitten-heeled shoes are allowed inside these historic homes.  Please note that you will be walking a mile or more along the tour route, and Charleston has many streets and alleys with uneven pavement or cobblestone.

What are my transportation options for getting around?

Visit this site for information about the free downtown Charleston Dash shuttle routes (211-Meeting/King).  Pedicabs are also a great way to get around downtown.  There are two options:  Charleston Pedicab and Charleston Bike Taxi.  You can make reservations in advance or call as you are touring.

What are my parking options?

Parking can be a challenge downtown.  Click here for the latest information on public parking.

What can I bring to the tours?

No large bags or backpacks are allowed as they can be hazards in some of the homes. We will provide water and punch at our hospitality venues, but you may want to bring your own reusable container of water to stay hydrated as you walk from garden to garden as it can be warm during March.

Is Photography allowed?
No photography is allowed in these private homes and gardens.  We are very grateful to all owners who have invited us to tour their homes and gardens and must respect their wishes for privacy.

What happens if it rains?

The tours take place even if it is raining, so please check Charleston’s weather forecast when packing to see if you should bring a raincoat.  And then pack it anyway just in case.

What is the refund policy?

All sales are final.  Refund requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis until February 15, 2026.  After that date, no refunds will be allowed for any reason, but patrons who notify us in advance can convert tickets to a tax-deductible contribution by contacting us at [email protected].

Will I receive my tickets and maps before the tour?

You will need to pick up your lanyards and maps before gaining entry to the homes and gardens.  The best time to pick up your tour packet is the day before the tours begin at our early ticket distribution; otherwise, you can pick up your tour packet at the hospitality venues on tour days, which will be published closer to the tour time.

·         Early distribution:  Thursday, March 19 from 12:00-4:00 pm at The Charleston Museum, 360 Meeting Street

·         South of Broad tour:  Friday, March 20 from 12:30-4:30 pm at Molly Wier Hall - First (Scots) Presbyterian, 62 King Street entrance

·         Ansonborough tour:  Saturday, March 21 from 12:30-4:30 pm at St. Stephen's Episcopal, 67 Anson Street

Are restrooms available for the public?

Restrooms are available at our hospitality venues on both days.  On the South of Broad tour, City Hall on the corner of Meeting and Broad has nice public restrooms.  Otherwise, visit the city guide for information on public restrooms downtown.  Your lanyard on both days of the tour will have a QR code to click and access the same guide.  Please note that restroom facilities are often not readily available in Charleston’s historic residential neighborhoods
