Junior Garden Club
The Junior Garden Club has been focused for the past two years on younger children, in kindergarten and first grade, to introduce them to the joy of growing plants. The first step was acquiring a library of books to support the goal as they did their 3Rs, especially reading: Setting up a Garden Library – books about plants, gardens and butterflies. Then they did projects throughout the year:
-
-
- Planting seeds in seed trays
- Planting a butterfly/flower garden
- Planting a salsa garden
- Planting seeds to grow herbs
- Painting river rocks to decorate the butterfly garden
- Painting/making bird feeders, taking some home, hanging some here at school
- Decorating pots and planting seeds to take home
- Pressing flowers and then using the pressed flowers to make bookmarks for their mothers
